Is Your Cooking Oil Killing You?
Do You Really Know What’s In Your Food?
If you ever eat food from restaurants, you are very likely ingesting one of the most inflammatory and dangerous processed food products ever created. You may even have this product in your home and use it in your own kitchen.
The product I’m referring to- commercial seed oils. Some examples: soybean, safflower, sunflower and canola oil. These oils are widely used in restaurants because they are inexpensive and are also in most processed food products. Even products found in “health food” stores contain this oils. It’s difficult to find products that are free of seed oils.
So you go about life, perhaps trying to make the best choices for your health. Perhaps you read labels and look for products low in sugar, high in protein or organic. Perhaps you been told that saturated fat is bad for you and that polyunsaturated fat is best. Or maybe you don’t read labels at all and trust that if an ingredient is in your favorite product, it’s probably ok. Or maybe, you don’t think about it at all.I’m here to tell you that unless you start paying attention, you will develop ill health and possibly shorten your life span.
Here’s what you need to know about cooking oil:
- Seed oils are not meant for human consumption. They contain too much polyunsaturated fatty acids which are extremely inflammatory
- Seed oils damage your arteries and can lead to heart disease
- Almost all infant formulas contain seed oils, even organic ones
- Animals that are not grass-fed or pasture raised and usually fed a heavily soy based diet which causes the animal to be inflammatory if you eat it
The solution? Use oils and fats that are health giving and nutrient dense instead!
Some examples are:
- Avocado oil
- Olive oil
- Grass-fed butter and ghee
- Coconut oil
- And, believe or not- pasture raised chicken fat, goose fat, duck fat, lard and tallow.
All of the above fats are more stable at high heat so they don’t become carcinogenic and they are filled with fat soluble vitamins and minerals.
